Renovation of Original Meeting Space Completes In February at The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel
ATLANTA, GA (January 2006) – The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in downtown Atlanta will complete a $1 million enhancement of its original 50,000 square feet of meeting space in February 2006, according to General Manager Kevin Kobishop. That space will feature new carpet, new furniture, enhanced lighting, new wall coverings, upgraded hardware, and new paint. This latest enhancement follows the addition of a $10 million Conference Center with 33,000 square feet of additional meeting space, which opened at the 760-room hotel in December 2004.
These improvements and the opening of the Conference Center follow $40 million in other enhancements at the hotel over the last four years. These included the recent remodeling of the hotel’s 760 guest rooms and suites, which now feature a stylish new look, Sheraton Sweet SleeperSM Beds and wireless high-speed Internet access. Other improvements included dramatic renovations of the hotel’s lobby, two restaurants and Martini Bar. Both restaurants now feature private dining rooms for groups or intimate gatherings, which are equipped with high-speed Internet T-1 lines, as well as separate sound and lighting systems.
“Groups will love the new look of our meeting space,” said Kobishop. “Combined with the opening of our Conference Center, and the many recent enhancements, our property is really like a new hotel.”
Ideally located in the heart of lively downtown Atlanta, just two blocks from Peachtree Street, The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel is known for its exceptional offerings for groups. The hotel was recently awarded Association Meetings magazine’s prestigious “Inner Circle Award” for the second consecutive year, where it was the only hotel in Atlanta and one of only two Sheratons worldwide to receive the distinction, as voted on by the magazine’s readers.
Among the many reasons cited for the award was the new Conference Center, which has been very well received by meeting planners and groups. Connecting the hotel’s north and south towers, the Conference Center features a 15,000-square-foot ballroom, 8,000 square feet of pre-function space, and four break-out rooms ranging from 1,134 square feet to 1,638 square feet. The new facility, complete with T-1 high-speed Internet access, also provides street level access for groups that need to transport vehicles or large equipment into the new ballroom.
Additional hotel offerings include a beautiful indoor/outdoor swimming pool and garden area, whirlpool, poolside bar, 24-hour fitness center, full-service business center, concierge, gift shop and The UPS Store™ on-site. Rooms feature a two-line telephone with voice mail, television with Nintendo®, coffee maker, and complimentary weekday newspaper. A first-class meeting hotel, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel also provides groups with a StarMeeting® Concierge, who can assist planners and attendees during every stage of an event.
Situated just one block from Peachtree Center, the hotel is within walking distance of Centennial Park, CNN Center, The Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, Underground Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center. Nearby sporting venues include Philips Arena, the Georgia Dome and Turner Field.
