Sheraton Atlanta Hotel Goes Smoke-Free
New policy eliminates smoke, lights a ‘win-win' for guests, associates and hotel
ATLANTA, GA (April 2008) – The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel (www.sheratonatlantahotel.com), located in the heart of downtown Atlanta just steps from Peachtree Street, is now 100 percent smoke-free, which includes all guest rooms and public spaces. The new initiative to support wellness and a healthier lifestyle follows a nation-wide Sheraton brand policy to be smoke-free in the United States, Caribbean and Canada by the end of 2008.
“We're very pleased to announce that our hotel is smoke-free,” said Kevin Kobishop, general manager of the 760-room hotel. “Our hotel and the Sheraton brand are committed to providing guests with a clean, comfortable and healthy stay. As we truly value the health and quality of the life of our guests and associates, we're very excited to provide this smoke-free environment.”
To implement the new smoke-free policy, the Sheraton Atlanta staff has closely followed the brand's comprehensive, step-by-step smoke-free conversion guide outlining specific cleaning instructions for erasing all allergens from former smoking rooms. The deep-clean transition included everything from soft goods and windows, to walls, carpets and air conditioning units. The hotel also closely adhered to inventory changing guidelines, a certification checklist and timeline, outdoor area requirements and much more.
Kobishop continued, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that ‘eliminating smoking in indoor spaces is the only way to fully protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke exposure.' So we at The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel wish to do our part to provide a healthy environment for our guests and staff.”
In additional to the beneficial health aspects of the Sheraton Atlanta's new smoke-free policy, the property will also experience a cost-savings from smoking-related cleaning, maintenance and even potentially insurance liability. Since there will no longer be separate smoking and non-smoking rooms, the new policy will even simplify the management of booking rooms at the property.
